Some fights are best known for an eye catching knockout, or being an all action war. Sadly for Alex Temelkov and Ken Salisbury their 1982 bout for the Australian Light Middleweight title is best known for ending in an all brawl that saw not only the two men fighting but also numerous others, including referee Charkey Ramon, himself a former fighter.

Temelkov, born in Strumica, Macedonia had lived in Australia since he was a 14 year after his family had emigrated. He had taken up boxing and after turning professional in 1977 he had accumulated a solid record of 14-5-1 and claimed the Australian light Middleweight title in 1980, a title he was defending in 1982 when faced Salisbury.

Like Temelkov, Salisbury was also born in Europe, in fact he was born in Liverpool, England though he too had been based in Australia for his entire boxing career which had began in 1979. His record was looking much better Temelkov's at a 18-0-1, though it was obvious that he was stepping up to try and claim his first notable title (having suffered his draw in a bout for the New South Wales State Light Middleweight title).

The clip below, from the 9th round shows the chaos that followed when Temelkov attempted to finish off Salisbury. Although the champion landed 2 clear foul blows no one could have expected the anarchy that ensued as men from both corners invaded the ring and Ramon was forced to fight for his own safety.

Following the bout Salisbury would continue on with a successful career which saw him losing just once in 32 bouts as he claimed the Commonwealth title before retiring in 1985. For Temelkov however this was the start of the end and whilst he did fight on for until 1990 he failed to really win any sort of a notable title or beat a noteworthy opponent.

    The Other Moments

Of course our great sport is about the fighters and them fighting. Sometimes however the most bizarre moments happen outside the confines of the actual sport. Whether it's an interview gone wrong, a corner man gone crazy or a fighter in the wild we hope you enjoy these clips as much as you enjoy the rest of the site.
